Maternity Band
A maternity band is usually a wrap that fits around your middle. A maternity band is not meant to provide support. A maternity band is meant to allow you to wear non-maternity clothes during your pregnancy.
The way you do this is you use your pre-pregnancy pants, but keep your pants opened and unzipped and you cover your pants and belly with the maternity band. The maternity band helps to keep your pants from falling down and to cover up the fact that your pants are open.
Some women complain that maternity bands are constantly sliding up or down. This is an inconvenience of a maternity band. But many women love the fact that they can use their normal clothes for much of their pregnancy without having to spend money on maternity clothes that they will only wear for a few months.
You can buy a maternity band from several manufacturers. Maternity bands are simply stretchy, elastic tubes. But some women make their own maternity bands. You can do this by using a sash or any material to cover your pants. HOWEVER, make certain that the material is not compressing or putting any pressure on your belly. If you use a sash, you may have to adjust and re-adjust the material when you sit down and stand up in order to avoid compressing your belly and in order to avoid exposing your open pants.
Another way to make an inexpensive belly band is to use an elastic tube top. If the tube top has arms or straps, cut the tube top below the arms or straps. Or sew two tube tops together in order to cover a wider area. Again, make certain that the maternity band is not compressing your belly. If you have any doubts discuss it with your medical care provider.
